i am greatly perturbed by a certain econs question that was set by my school in a block test in a certain year in the not too distant past.
the question goes:
Explain what is price discrimination and discuss whether the above is an example of price discrimination.
well apparently it may not seem to perturbing or appalling, because it is a rather easy question. but look closer. i'm quite sure most won't find the mistake in the question. it seems correct doesn't it?
well not gramatically.
"Explain what is price discrimination"
i mean doesn't this just scream out at you?
the correct way to say it would be
"Explain what price discrimination is"
and that is the quality of Singaporean's English. simply deteriorating. we need to change this before it's too late.
