i might just crumble under all the homework.

i have too much homework. that's all.

i think i can't take it much longer.

i have been considering alternative options. yes i can study, yes i can do well. but what do i want in life?

is studying continuously what is the best for me? i mean, i guess what it'll probably do is kill me slowly and burn my brain till one day, i finally go insane.

doesn't seem quite fun. oxymoron in fact. why? what do we study for? it's for our future isn't it? but yet we see Korea. so many students killing themselves over studies. then there is no future for them. ironic. so will Singapore become like this?

i mean, we look at the Integrated Programme for example. it is supposed to help students learn skills, learn leadership qualities, develop independent learning and of course, not to take the O levels. and yes. i do not question the apparent success that the IP has achieved. it has equipped students with skills such as Projects Work which is only seen in Polys. it has trained student leaders in various industries. and of course, it has promoted independent learning in the form of the numerous projects and in some cases, thesis papers. and yes, the most apparent success is that we don't need to take the O levels.

however, amidst all this fanciful bonuses presented to us; the detriments are countless. we see an obvious increase in workload. we see many who have sleepless nights. we see people suffering from stress. we see endless hours of revision. we see 'muggers' with no social life. and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

and this carries on for what; six years?

i am not stating that the IP system is not useful. i am not criticising it of not meeting it's initial aims. i am not contending that the system has bred a generation of 'muggers'. not all of these.

all i am saying is that the IP was established for independent learning and all that. and of course, many would expect the abolishing of O levels to mean a significant decrease in workload. yet the workload is ever present.

i would say revamp the IP system. i know that this revamp (if carried out) will not benefit me. but at least those people who enter the IP system will not question the rationale of the system and will not find the workload too hard to bear. at least they will receive the full benefits that the IP system can give to them, and at least they may not view IP education in such a light.

i don't know. i probably will not be heard. this post will probably be unread. i may even get into trouble (unlikely as i have not posted derogatory remarks or criticised our authorities). but at least you guys out there know that the IP, however how fanciful a picture it may seem, may not be so ideal after all.

so is the grass greener?

i don't know. i'll just probably live life and let Him decide

ciao
