ASEAN.

there's the thing called a Model UN Conference (MUN), and now my school has MAS. no, not the freaking Monetary Authority of Singapore. the Model ASEAN Summit. it's interesting. i sat in the lecture theatre and tried not to dose off. yeah.

let's take it from the top.

every term my school has something called a Sabbatical. apparently, and i strongly highlight the word apparently, it is a time where students are supposed to take a break from studies, and learn some useful new skill. i'm not too sure if useful is an apt word, but that's what it's supposed to do anyway.

so anyways. i joined this MAS (i reiterate: Model ASEAN Summit). it is interesting in a way i must say. i really learnt how the whole ASEAN Summit works. in fact, according to this simulated model, all the policy making is in the background, and the actual summit is where the leaders of various countries give a speech, sign the agreement, and take photographs. i'm not sure if it's what they do in real life, but it really shows you how ASEAN works. if it is accurate that is.

so the lecture theatre is real cool. and i mean it literally and not so literally. Literally cool, because the air conditioning is a centralised air conditioning and we were practically freezing inside the LT. and not so literally as in that it was designed to look exactly the same as our Parliament House. now how cool is that?

so yeah. we had the delegates from various countries, blah blah blah. i am from Cambodia. as in i'm one of those allocated to Cambodia. not literally from Cambodia. i must be very good at minesweeper for them to allocate me to Cambodia. i'm joking. really. anyway. so we had a short mock session today. to let us know of what we were supposed to do in the real thing a few days later.

DISCLAIMER: ALL I AM GOING TO SAY NOW IS NOT REALLY HAPPENING IN OUR WORLD TODAY AND IS JUST WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO PUSH FOR IN OUR MOCK SESSION TODAY.

PROCEEDINGS

we saw Singapore saying that Malaysia was hindering it's growth and wanted all ASEAN countries to unite against Malaysia. Malaysia expressed displeasure. Myanmar called for an informal debate of 5 minutes. after 5 minutes, no consensus was reached and Singapore pushed for war against Malaysia, calling all countries to unite. most countries aired views. Myanmar called for a 2 minute informal session. consensus was reached. all ASEAN countries decided to be united, and not go against each other. decision was made to launch all out attack on China. Brunei wanted to be random and said that it was sad and lonely cause it was left out of the debate and demanded to be part of the war as well.

that was just the informal session to give us a feel of what it would feel like. the real thing on Wednesday will be more formal. discussing more pertinent issues like should Myanmar be expelled from ASEAN, should be push for AFTA, and the formation of Human Rights Commissions in ASEAN to (obviously) protect Human rights.

oh yeah... being in Cambodia is fun.. we get lots of economic aid... haha.

yeah that's all
